Beets are a very healthy and dietary product. I offer an interesting option for preparing beets. Baked beets “Aromatic” turn out to be very piquant, aromatic, and unusual. Such beets can serve as an excellent side dish, good as an independent dish during Lent, and when cold they are an excellent appetizer or salad. In addition, this is not a high-calorie dish at all, but at the same time tasty and piquant.

The photo shows the necessary products. You can use any spices to prepare aromatic baked beets according to your taste.

First, let's prepare the marinade. To do this, mix soy sauce, oil, vinegar, honey, spices, and salt.

We put cherries in the marinade; if they come from freezing, like mine, you don’t need to defrost them, just let them thaw slightly. Mash the berries in the marinade. If you like it spicy, add ground hot pepper.

Peel the beets and carrots. Cut the beets into slices, carrots into cubes.

Add the beets with the marinade, stir, let stand for a while while we prepare the baking dish and turn on the oven.

Turn on the oven to preheat to 200 degrees. Prepare a baking dish. Place the beets in the mold along with the marinade.

Place carrot sticks and garlic on top (I cut it in half).

Cover the pan thoroughly with foil on all sides (shiny side inward). And put in a preheated oven for 1-1.5 hours. The time depends on what you want to get: very soft beet slices or a little crispy. Delicious either way!

That’s it, the baked “Fragrant” beets are ready, you can sprinkle with fresh herbs if desired. When warm, this is an excellent side dish, with a piece of chicken breast- a wonderful light and at the same time satisfying and healthy dinner.

When served cold, it makes an excellent salad or appetizer.

Very tasty, spicy, aromatic.

Why are beets baked in the oven healthier than boiled beets?

I used to often boil this vegetable myself, until I accidentally found out that baking it is much healthier. I decided to try it and discovered that beets baked in the oven in foil (and this applies to almost any vegetable) have several advantages:

  1. Tastes better! Not everyone generally likes to eat this vegetable, but in vain, baked beets have a much richer and sweeter taste!
  2. More benefits! In addition, baked beets retain absolutely all valuable microelements, which are inevitably lost during the cooking process. That is why nutritionists recommend consuming it baked, since it is much healthier than boiled.
  3. The color is richer! Another important advantage of baking beets in the oven is that they always remain beautiful, rich and do not lose their beet color. After all, food is heated more evenly in the oven than when cooking on the stove.
  4. Better consistency! It turns out less watery than boiled, and the kitchen always remains clean and guaranteed order.
  5. Less hassle! You don’t have to wash the pan after cooking vegetables, which is a big saving of time and effort.

How to properly bake beets in the oven

To bake whole beets in the oven, you don’t need any special culinary skills, but there are still some points to consider:

  • We will bake the beets whole, including the peel. Therefore, it is important to choose a vegetable with an intact skin, then it will retain its juices as much as possible during baking.
  • It should also be taken into account that beets lose about 1/3 of their volume during baking, so you need to think about this point when calculating the amount for preparing a dish.

Methods for roasting beets

Today I’ll tell you about two ways to bake whole beets in the oven: in foil and in a sleeve. Both methods are simple, you can choose any of them. Once I wasn’t at home, a baking sleeve came to the rescue. And you know, it’s just as good as baking beets in it. There are even a number of advantages. If you need to wrap each root vegetable separately in foil, then you can put all the vegetables in the sleeve at the same time. Of course, if you have very small beets, then you can wrap them all in one sheet of foil, but medium-sized or large root vegetables still have to be wrapped separately. In addition, I noticed that the beets bake faster in the sleeve than in foil.

But this is not all convenient and quick ways roasting vegetables. Beets can also be baked in microwave oven in a heat-resistant bag. To do this, you will need to pierce the vegetable in several places and bake for 15 minutes at a power of 800 watts. Then leave for 5 minutes without opening the microwave. In both cases (baking in the oven or microwave), if the beets are a little dry for your taste, then pour 100 milliliters of water onto a baking sheet or plate.

Whatever baking method you choose, you can bake beets to prepare various dishes from them in advance and store them in the refrigerator, wrapped in foil, for about 3 days.

How long to bake beets in the oven

As for the time for baking beets in foil, a medium-sized root vegetable is completely baked at 200 degrees in 45 minutes. If the vegetable is large, the cooking time will double. You can check the readiness of the beets by piercing them with a toothpick.

Now you know how long to bake beets in foil. But if you decide to use a sleeve for these purposes, the vegetable will bake faster in it. In this recipe, I decided to tell you not only how to bake beets in the oven in foil, but also how to do it in a baking sleeve. Therefore, I wrapped some of the root vegetables in foil, and some in a sleeve and compared the cooking time. I had a large beetroot, which took 1 hour to bake in foil and 40 minutes in the sleeve.

How to bake beets in the oven whole in foil and a sleeve, recipe with photos step by step

Ingredients

Beets - several pieces (in my case 3 pieces)
Food foil or baking sleeve

Preparation

1. Cut off the tops from young beets, or remove the tails from old fruit. Wash the root vegetables thoroughly with a brush under running water, washing away all the dirt, and dry them with a paper towel. At the same time, do not cut the tail and tops too short! Since we will bake the whole beets in the oven, we will not cut off the peel either.

2. Now let’s look at two options for baking beets in the oven.

The first one is in foil. To do this, cut it to the required size and wrap each root vegetable tightly so that there are no holes left.

The second option is beets baked in a sleeve. We will also cut the sleeve to size, place the beets in it and secure it on the sides with the paper wire that comes with the kit. You can also use regular sewing thread for these purposes.

3. Place the beets in foil or a sleeve on a baking sheet and bake in the oven at 200 degrees.

Advice. In order to save energy, if you have an electric stove, then when the beets are almost ready, you can turn off the oven and leave the vegetable in it until it cools completely without unrolling the foil or sleeve.

4. Ready beets must be cooled. This is done so as not to get burned by the steam emanating from the freshly baked vegetable. Next, use the oven-baked beets according to the application, for example, cook vinaigrette, herring “under a fur coat” and other dishes. And you can read the delicious recipe in the next article, join the group on VKontakte and subscribe to site updates (both forms are on the right) so as not to miss the announcement!

Bon appetit!

Sincerely, Lyubov Fedorova.

Beetroot for salad can be boiled in water, steamed in a double boiler or slow cooker. You can also bake it in the oven.

Such a root vegetable would have to be baked for a long time. So I peeled it.

I cut it into medium pieces (do not chop it, so that it would be more convenient to grate the finished beets).

Placed in a baking dish in one layer.

I covered the pan with foil so that the vegetables would bake faster and not dry out. And sent it to bake in the oven at 190 degrees.

The beets are baked for about 1 hour. It may take 10-15 minutes less or more, depending on the oven and the vegetables themselves. You can check readiness with a toothpick. If the beets are soft and a toothpick fits into them easily, then they are ready.

The cooled pieces of beets can be grated and then follow the chosen salad recipe.

Small root vegetables are more suitable for roasting beets with skins. They should be washed well with a hard sponge or brush, placed in a baking dish in one layer, covered with foil and baked until ready. Peel the cooled beets and use them to prepare the salad.
